Astrology wise... earth represents our current position and where we are in relation to the rest of the universe. It is the center of our perspective and therefore the center of our astrological chart - our original point of reference.

Some might say it also represents 'reality' or experience where the other objects represent energy or possibilities.

For me, astrology is more like a mapping tool. It maps the energy of the universe when certain objects are doing certain things or moving through certain spaces. Astrology does not consider actual physical forces of an object.

In that light, it seems more closely related to feng shui than astronomy (the science)... i.e. where is Jupiter in relation to my current position, in front of me? behind me? and what does that position represent energetically speaking? how does it change the flow of energy around me?

And so in that context... the Earth is ME - and nothing has more influence on my experience than me!

HiYah Folks,

Jen, many thanks for your reply and I expect it was spot on. I have to admit though, you kinda lost me there.
..... the Earth is ME - and nothing has more influence on my experience than me! What's that got to do with Earth influencing other planets in our solar system? Any chance of you elucidating a bit.

Your original question was about astrology... but I wonder if you are thinking astronomy when it comes to the earths actual physicical influence on other planets. That influence has to do with gravity, electromagnetic, strong and weak physical forces as well as many types of energies. Have I lost the plot... again? :lol

For me, astrology is a 'map' of energy. So, from that perspective, if I lived on Mars, the position of the earth would just be a sign of a particular energetic position. It does not have any 'influence' other than the one I assign to it by virtue of it's position. In fact, I imagine that if I was a Martian astrologer, I would have to assign earth the qualities that earth astrologers have assigned to Mars because we are closest neighbors physically, and all the other archetypes are already represented elsewhere.

From an astronomy point of view, Mars' orbit is affected by Earth's gravity, it's electromagnetic field is affected by earth depending on how close we are to each other, and in the last decade or so, it has been forever altered by allowing earth objects to land and explore there. Since each object in the sky is constantly moving (including us), the combination of energies is constantly changing.

Clear as mud, eh?

Hiyah Jen, Ferny,

Nice try Ferny, ;) but no it has nothing to do with a story. It was just a thought that popped in as I was reading a book by Diana Cooper, and the thought had nothing to do with what I was reading. :sun I can only guess I was being prompted to find out by asking all at Shinin' Hearts.

The thought wandered around how the moon affects our planet and some people in various ways. I read or heard somewhere how Jupiter, when it is in a certain position in the sky, has a heavy affect on some people so just wondered what affect we have on our solar system out there.

Funny how thoughts pop into our head isn't it Johnty.

We'll have to go to a science site to find out. I'll try typing The Earth's Orbit and effect on other planets and see what happens.

Hi Again,
Couldn't find anything :dunno But I would have thought the Earth did have an effect on the solar system and it effects the moon as the moon is a satelitte caught in our magnetic pull.
